Handel and Haydn Society to Celebrate 200th Anniversary in March

For two centuries, the Handel and Haydn Society (H+H) has made an enduring cultural impact on the City of Boston. At long last, H+H will observe in March the 200th anniversary of H+H's founding. Boston Mayor Martin Walsh has officially declared Tuesday, March 24 Handel and Haydn Society Day. A citywide celebration on that day includes the opening of a Bicentennial exhibition, which will be on view through September 5 at the Boston Public Library, Central Library at Copley Square.

The Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO) announced its 2015-16 season, presented by Dawn and Jacques Lipson, this evening in grand style in Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre. With the entire orchestra performing selected excerpts on stage, 12th Music Director Ward Stare previewed his inaugural -- and the RPO's 93rd -- season to an enthusiastic full house that included longtime patrons, local VIPs, media, and the general public.
Harry Bicket and The English Concert to Perform Handel's THEODORA at Carnegie Hall, 2/2

On Sunday, February 2, at 2:00 p.m., Harry Bicket conducts Handel's oratorio, Theodora, in concert at Carnegie Hall with acclaimed baroque orchestra The English Concert. In this concert production of Handel's second-to-last oratorio, celebrated countertenor David Daniels performs the role of Didymus opposite soprano Dorothea Roschmann (Theodora), leading a renowned cast including mezzo-soprano Sarah Connolly (Irene), tenor Andrew Kennedy (Septimus), and bass-baritone Neal Davies (Valens), and The Choir of Trinity Wall Street led by Music Director Julian Wachner. Benjamin Sosland of The Juilliard School leads a pre-concert talk at 1:00 p.m. This concert marks the second year of multi-year Handel project by Harry Bicket, The English Concert and Carnegie Hall, following last February's Radimisto in which David Daniels sang the title role.
