CWRU CPH MFA Program Offers Immersive Production Of THE SEAGULL
The Case Western Reserve University/Cleveland Play House MFA Acting Program is proud to begin their season with a modern reimagining of Anton Chekhov's The Seagull. Chekhov's classic play about artistic rebellion, translated by Paul Schmidt, will star the MFA Class of 2020 and guests. Director Sarah Wansley's staging will shed light on the show's poetic realism. Press opening will be on October 9th at the Helen Theatre in Playhouse Square and the show will run from October 10th-October 20th.
Cleveland Play House Appoints Artistic Directing Fellow
After a competitive national search, Cleveland Play House (CPH) selected Sarah Wansley to join the company for the 2018-19 season as the Artistic Directing Fellow. This Fellowship, designed to address inequities in the field, is for experienced female theatre directors with regional theatre leadership aspirations. Wansley will work alongside CPH Artistic Director Laura Kepley and Associate Artistic Director Robert Barry Fleming learning theatre management, producing methods, and administration skills. She will also direct the fall CWRU/CPH MFA production, to be announced at a later date, and the New Ground Theatre Festival production of The Wolves, in the spring of 2019.

Greenway Arts Alliance Presents George Orwell's 1984
"War is Peace, Freedom is Slavery and Ignorance is Strength." Greenway Arts Alliance Presents: George Orwell's 1984, directed by Kate Jopson as the first production of their novel to stage program Greenway Reads. 300 Fairfax High School students are reading the novel and will attend matinee's of the theatrical production. The adaptation by Alan Lyddiard creates an interactive and engaging experience for audience members. Jopson said, "We're trying to create an immersive experience. The elements of the play and its themes are all around us in the real world. We try to emphasize that and as soon as you arrive at the theater there's not anywhere you're not in the set of 1984, even in the lobby and bathrooms."
ALLEGIANCE's George Takei Boards PACIFIC OVERTURES at Classic Stage Company
George Takei, who recently starred in the Broadway musical Allegiance, has been cast as 'Reciter' in Classic Stage Company's upcoming production of Stephen Sondheim and John Weidman's PACIFIC OVERTURES, to be directed by Tony Award winner (and 2016 Tony Award nominee) John Doyle, who this season takes the reins as Artistic Director of the vital East Village theater company.
Mirirai Sithole Awarded Classic Stage Company's Rosemarie Tichler Fund Grant
Classic Stage Company has announced that Mirirai Sithole is this year's recipient of the Rosemarie Tichler Fund grant. The Fund was established in 2010 with the mission to assist young actors who have appeared at CSC and who have recently made the transition from their training into the profession. The $3,000 grant can be used by the young artist to continue training or to offset loans they may have incurred while studying their craft. With the grant, CSC hopes to make a difference in the lives of young actors at the start of their careers as well as to heighten awareness in the community to the specific needs of actors.
Michael C. Hall Will Lead Reading of Will Eno's GNIT; John Doyle Set to Direct
Michael C. Hall will headline a one-night night only reading of Will Eno's play GNIT, adapted from Henrik Ibsen's PEER GYNT Monday evening, June 20 at 7 pm at CSC (136 East 13th Street) as part of the theater's FIRST LOOK FESTIVAL IBSEN, presented in conjunction with the company current production of PEER GYNT, directed by John Doyle and runs through this Sunday, June 19.

The evening included performances from Sondheim's canon by Patti LuPone (Gypsy), Victoria Clark (The Light in the Piazza), Cynthia Erivo (The Color Purple), Joaquina Kalukango (The Color Purple), Judy Kuhn (Fun Home, CSC's Passion), Marin Mazzie (Kiss Me, Kate) and Alexandra Silber(Fiddler on the Roof).

Breaking News: John Doyle to Direct DEAD POETS SOCIETY Premiere & PACIFIC OVERTURES as Part of Classic Stage's 2016-17 Season
Off-Broadway's acclaimed Classic Stage Company today announced plans for its 2016-17 season, led by incoming Artistic Director John Doyle and Managing Director Jeff Griffin. Doyle, a Tony Award winner for Sweeney Todd and the director of Broadway's highly-praised new production of The Color Purple, assumes the artistic leadership of CSC beginning in July, succeeding Brian Kulick, who has led the company since 2003. For CSC, Doyle has directed Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's Passion and Rodgers & Hammerstein's Allegro, and later this season will direct Henrik Ibsen's Peer Gynt.

Chae Chaput - a native of Manchester, New Hampshire, who did her undergraduate work at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Madison, New Jersey, where she earned her BA in Theater Arts with a double concentration in Acting and Technical Theater with a minor in film - is one such member of the group.

CORE to Present Series of One-Act Comedies ADULTS ONLY
The audaciously funny comic writer Dean Imperial is getting the royal treatment as CORE Artist Ensemble lavishes its attentions on him by producing an evening of his one-acts. 'Adults Only' -- seven one-act comedies by Imperial -- will have its world premiere at TBG Theatre, 312 West 36th Street, in a three-week engagement from Saturday February 6 at 8pm to Sunday February 21 at 3pm.
Tonya Pinkins Stars in 'MOTHER COURAGE', Beginning Tonight at Classic Stage
Classic Stage Company's production of Bertolt Brecht's MOTHER COURAGE AND HER CHILDREN, starring Tony Award winner Tonya Pinkins, begins performances tonight, December 9 for a limited engagement through January 24. MOTHER COURAGE AND HER CHILDREN will be directed by Brian Kulick and will feature original music by Tony Award winner Duncan Sheik. The official press opening is Thursday, January 7.
