Winners from the 40th News & Documentary Emmy Awards
The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced tonight the winners of the 40th Annual News & Documentary Emmy® Awards. The awards were presented at Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall in New York City and honored both national and international nominees in more than 50 categories. Andrea Mitchell, NBC News' chief foreign affairs correspondent and host of MSNBC's “Andrea Mitchell Reports,” was honored for her ground-breaking career with the Lifetime Achievement Award.
RATINGS: THE RACHEL MADDOW SHOW is Top Cable News Program In A25-54 for the Quarter
MSNBC's “The Rachel Maddow Show” was the #1 cable news program in A25-54 for the 1st quarter of 2019, beating all other FOX News and CNN shows, according to Nielsen data from December 31, 2018 through March 28, 2019. “Maddow” averaged 552,000 in A25-54 viewers (vs. FOX News' 542,000 for Hannity and 528,000 for Hannity with Specials at 9pm, FOX News' 534,000 at 8pm and CNN's 367,000 at 9pm). Additionally, this quarter was “Maddow's” highest-rated quarter ever in total viewers, averaging 3.07M total viewers at 9pm (vs. FOX News' 3.06M for Hannity with Specials and CNN's 1.3M).
International Women's Media Foundation Presents 2018 Courage In Journalism Awards
The International Women's Media Foundation (IWMF) today honored several outstanding female journalists at the 2018 Courage in Journalism Awards luncheon at Cipriani 42nd Street. This year's honorees included news agency JINHA founder, Zehra Do?an, U.S. freelance photojournalist, Meridith Kohut, undercover CNN International correspondent, Nima Elbagir, and organized crime reporter and ZETA editor-in-chief, Rosario Mosso Castro. "60 Minutes'" Lesley Stahl also received the 2018 Lifetime Achievement Award. Additionally, MSNBC President, Phil Griffin was recognized with the IWMF Leadership Award along with Bloomberg News' Senior Editor, Karen Toulon who was honored with the Gwen Ifill Award.
MSNBC Scores All Time Highs In 3Q18
In the 3rd quarter of 2018, MSNBC scored all-time ratings highs in the key dayparts of total day (M-Su 6am-6am) and dayside (M-F 9am-5pm), delivering MSNBC's largest total viewer audience ever as well as the network's biggest lead over CNN in those dayparts, according to Nielsen. In total viewers, MSNBC continued to close the ratings gap with FOX News in both total day and dayside. MSNBC's ratings in those key dayparts were at their closest quarterly levels to FOX News since 2002. MSNBC was the only cable news network to grow year-over-year in both total day and dayside, while CNN faced ratings declines. MSNBC dayside was up +20% in total viewers with 1.11M (vs. CNN's 850,000) as compared to 3Q17, while CNN was down -2%. In total day, MSNBC with 1.04M (vs. CNN's 722,000) rose +10% in total viewers compared to the previous year, while CNN was down -9%. In total viewers, MSNBC topped CNN in total day for the 6th consecutive quarter and in dayside for the 5th quarter in a row. MSNBC also recorded the network's biggest quarterly lead over CNN in MSNBC history.

MSNBC Beats CNN In every Key Daypart In July 2018
For the month of July 2018, MSNBC continued to dominate CNN among total viewers in every key daypart, including prime (M-F 8-11pm), dayside (M-F 9am-5pm), and total day (M-Su 6am-6am), according to Nielsen ratings data. In total day, July marked the 17th month in a row that the network topped CNN in total viewers; in prime, MSNBC beat CNN for the 20th straight month; in dayside, MSNBC bested CNN for the 10th straight month. Among all cable networks, MSNBC was the #2 most-watched in prime – ahead of #9 CNN and doubling CNN in total viewers (2.1 million vs. CNN's 998,000). Additionally, MSNBC prime was in the Top 10 across all cable in A25-54. In total day and dayside, MSNBC was the #3 most-watched network across all cable, ahead of #8 CNN in total day and #4 CNN in dayside.
MSNBC Dayside Programming Posts Growth In May
For the month of May, MSNBC dayside (M-F 9am-5pm) posted growth in A25-54 and total viewers while FOX News and CNN both declined. MSNBC dayside was up +11%, while the competition was down double digits (vs. FOX News' -14% and CNN's -25%) compared to May 2017. In total viewers, MSNBC was up +4% (vs. FOX News' -9% and CNN's -21%). May marked the 8th straight month that MSNBC beat CNN in total viewers during M-F dayside. For all of cable, MSNBC finished as the #2 most-watched network in total viewers, up from #4 in 2017 (ahead of Nickelodeon and CNN). Among the Top 10 cable networks, MSNBC was the only network to grow in total viewers over 2017. In the key A25-54 demographic, MSNBC dayside continued to narrow the gap with CNN, with less than 10,000 viewers A25-54 separating the two cable news networks. This is the closest MSNBC dayside has been to CNN in four years (since February 2014).
