Chandrika Tandon's song-cycle, Shivoyam-The Quest, which recently touched down at the Eisenhower Theater at the Kennedy Center, is part oratorio, part jam session, part spectacle, and organized around the many steps to enlightenment she experienced. It's not prescriptive-not a 'how to' manual, as much as a travelogue, with a number of beautiful stops along the way.

Over 450 alumni, donors and supporters gathered at St. Ann's Warehouse on Monday night for the NYU Tisch School of the Arts 2019 Gala, honoring notable alumni Susan Kelechi Watson and Sharon Chang. The event featured several performances by current Tisch students in tribute to the two honorees. Alec and Hilaria Baldwin and Martin Scorsese served as honorary co-chairs for the evening. In attendance were NYU Tisch Dean Allyson Green, NYU Provost Katherine Fleming, Grammy Award-winning music executive Clive Davis and Tony Award-winning actress Phylicia Rashad. Nearly $1 million was raised to support critical needs of talented Tisch students.

The Paul Dresher Ensemble Presents the music theater production Schick Machine September 23-25 on San Francisco's Z Space Main Stage prior to tour. Directed by Rinde Eckert virtuoso percussionist Steven Schick inhabits a fantastical stage filled with huge invented instruments and sound sculptures - including the Hurdy Grande, the Tumbler, the Field of Flowers and the Peacock (a deconstructed pipe organ). After the performance, the audience is invited onstage to engage and explore a kind of audio "maker" sound and visual domain. Rose Hall. The event will be hosted by alumni Alec Baldwin and Spike Lee and will honor the contributions of the Tisch family. All proceeds from the gala will go towards scholarship funds to support talented students for the next half century.

?Allyson Green, dean of NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, has announced that noted philanthropist, businesswoman, and Tisch Dean's Council member Iris Cantor is giving $10 million to support the construction of NYU's first professional proscenium theater. The performance space - part of a planned multi-use building on Bleecker St., due to break ground next year - will be named the Iris Cantor Theater.
