BIO
Alicia Silverstone is an American actress, author, and animal rights activist. She was born on October 4, 1976, in San Francisco, California, and grew up in Hillsborough, a wealthy suburb of San Francisco. Silverstone began her acting career at the age of 16, appearing in a number of television commercials before landing her first major role in the 1993 film "The Crush."
Silverstone's breakout role came in 1995 when she starred as Cher Horowitz in the hit film "Clueless." The film, which was loosely based on Jane Austen's novel "Emma," was a critical and commercial success, grossing over $56 million at the box office. Silverstone's performance as the fashionable and popular Cher earned her a number of award nominations, including a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Motion Picture - Comedy or Musical.
In addition to her film work, Silverstone has also appeared on stage. In 2002, she made her Broadway debut in a revival of "The Graduate," playing the role of Elaine Robinson. The production, which also starred Kathleen Turner and Jason Biggs, received mixed reviews but was a commercial success, grossing over $15 million during its run.
Silverstone has also had a number of notable roles on television. In 2003, she starred in the short-lived NBC series "Miss Match," playing a divorce lawyer who also worked as a matchmaker. The series, which was created by Darren Star, received mixed reviews and was cancelled after just one season. In 2005, Silverstone had a recurring role on the HBO series "Six Feet Under," playing the love interest of David Fisher (played by Michael C. Hall).
In recent years, Silverstone has focused on her work as an animal rights activist and author. She is a vegan and has written a number of books on veganism and animal rights, including "The Kind Diet" and "The Kind Mama." She has also been involved with a number of animal rights organizations, including PETA and Farm Sanctuary.
Silverstone's most recent acting work includes a guest role on the TV series "The Baby-Sitters Club" in 2020. She played the role of Elizabeth Thomas-Brewer, the mother of one of the main characters.
