Jazz Legend Kahil El'Zabar Returns To The Encore Next Month
The incomparable Kahil El'Zabar and his award-winning Ethnic Heritage Ensemble are returning to The Encore, this time bringing a unique Modern Exploration of the American Songbook. El'Zabar's ensemble last appeared on The Encore's Maas stage one year ago with Modern Jazz Meets Musical Theatre, which was met with great enthusiasm and acclaim.

The Tony Award winning musical, Ain’t Misbehavin’, opens at The Encore Musical Theatre Company in Dexter, Michigan this week. At the helm is “The Mayor of Broadway” GERRY MCINTYRE, whose energetic choreography was last seen at The Encore in Smokey Joe’s Café. Not only an accomplished director and choreographer, McIntyre’s Broadway performance credits include Anything Goes with PATTI LUPONE, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat with DONNY OSMOND, and the original company of Once on this Island.

Modern Jazz Meets Musical Theatre runs for two performances only, Feb. 18th and 19th at 7:30pm, at The Encore Musical Theatre Company. Today ArtsBridge announced the nominees for the 9th Annual Georgia High School Musical Theatre Awards - Shuler Hensley Awards - in a live streaming broadcast on GPB.org. 35 public and private schools from throughout the state were nominated in 17 categories. The awards show is the culmination of a year-long professional development program, and will showcase the next generation of Georgia's musical theatre talent. Daniel Harding, awarded the Premio Abbiati by Italian music critics as best conductor of 2011, celebrates Wagner's centenary with the Prelude and Death of Isolde, the symphonic piece with which Wagner introduced Tristan und Isolde in concert halls while he was still struggling to have it performed in theaters. Harding, conducts La Scala's philharmonic orchestra in a classic MusicEmotion concert to be broadcast Sunday, October 20, noon at Music Box Theatre, 3733 N. Southport Avenue.
