Alex Boyd is from Cleveland, Ohio. In 2012, Boyd started his own theatre company, Your ACT Theatrical Co., in Cleveland, Ohio. ?During this time, Boyd produced several new works including Hatter: a new musical (selected for the Ronald M. Ruble New Play Festival in Sandusky, OH), Wartorn, and the Ohio Premier of Yes, Virginia! the musical in conjunction with Mercury Theatre Company.
In 2015, Boyd moved Your ACT Theatrical Co. to Winchester, VA in efforts to continue to grow and strengthen the company. His first show in Winchester was John Patrick Shanley's Doubt: a parable. After a successful run, Boyd continued his plan to grow the company. In 2016 , Your ACT secured 501c3 Non-Profit status. In the events following, Boyd produced several sold out performances including Peter Pan: a new musical adventure, Richard O'Brien's The Rocky Horror Show and Godspell. He also developed a Youth Education/ Theatre Program at Your ACT by partnering with the Shenandoah Valley Discovery Museum. Youth theatre productions have included Willy Wonka, Disney's Beauty and the Beast Jr. and Yes, Virginia! the musical. Recently, Your ACT has found a long term home at the Vostrikov Ballet Academy and Theatre where Boyd still serves as the Producing Artistic Director.
In May 2017, Boyd became an investor on the Broadway Bound revival of The Secret Garden, making him the youngest investor on the production. During the development stage, the show was seen at the Shakespeare Company., The 5th Ave Theatre in Seattle and Dallas Theatre Under The Stars. In these development productions, The Secret Garden featured actors such as Tony Winner Daisy Eagan (Mary Lennox, OBC Secret Garden), Michael Xaiver (Sunset Boulevard Revival), Jeremy Kushnier (OBC Footloose), Josh Young (OBC Jesus Christ Superstar, Amazing Grace), Charlie Franklin (Book of Mormon), Charlotte Maltby (Sound of Music Nat' Tour), and Tam Mutu (West End: Love Never Dies, Les Miserables).
In November 2017, Boyd worked on the Off-Broadway production of Kris Kringle the Musical. The production featured Broadway legends such as Pamela Myers (OBC Company), Cathy Rigby (Peter Pan, Seussical), Kim Crosby (OBC Into the Woods), Andrew Keenan Bolger (OBC Newsies, OBC Tuck Everlasting, Mary Poppins), Samantha Hill (Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables).
While in Cleveland, Boyd served as president of the Mercury Theatre Company (MTC) Teen Board for six years. During that time, he created and produced several projects. Most of his time was focused on developing connections between youth performers and MTC in efforts to provide quality programing to each student. He also helped develop many of the education opportunities offered though MTC including weekend workshops and the Teen Stock summer camps. Boyd also worked at many other theatres including Heights Youth Theatre, Stage Right! School for the Performing Arts and Caryl Crane Youth Theatre.
Boyd, will graduate in the Spring of 2018 from Shenandoah Conservatory with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre. During his time at Shenandoah, Boyd performed in Romeo and Juliet, Onward Victoria! and the Collegiate Premier of American Idiot. During his time at Shenandoah, Boyd was asked to sing as a backup vocalist in Kristin Chenoweth's My Love Letter to Broadway.
