LIGHTS, CAMERA, ASTORIA! Exhibition Opens Today at Moving Image
Museum of the Moving Image pays tribute to the legacy of filmmaking in Astoria with an exhibition that traces the history of the Astoria studio, a local landmark with deep roots in the culture of New York City. Lights, Camera, Astoria!, on view from today, October 26, 2013, through February 9, 2014, explores each phase of the site from its start as Paramount Pictures's East Coast production facility in the 1920s, a center for independent filmmaking in the 1930s, the U.S. Army Pictorial Center from World War II into the Cold War, the site's rebirth in the late 1970s, to the present day Kaufman Astoria Studios, a thriving motion picture and television studio, and a vibrant cultural hub that includes Museum of the Moving Image, Frank Sinatra School of the Arts, and restaurants and cafes.
Community Film Studio Santa Barbara to Screen THE BET at Arlington Theatre, 4/19-20
Community Film Studio Santa Barbara presents their first feature-length film THE BET at the Arlington Theatre (Santa Barbara, CA) on April 19th and 20th, 2013 at 7 p.m. This delightful romantic comedy marks the directorial debut of Finola Hughes, veteran film and television actress and local Carpinteria resident. The film was produced by Christine Fry, James Kahn, and Jack Presnal. Annie J. Dahlgren and Christina Eliason wrote the script, which pits a teenager against his grandfather in a wager over who will find love first. If the teen wins, he acquires his deceased father's vintage muscle car; and if the grandfather wins, the teen has to rebuild the family porch and re-do the landscaping.
TDF Costume Collections Opens In New Home at Kaufman Astoria Studios
Theatre Development Fund's (TDF) Costume Collection, which is one of the largest theatrical costume rental houses in the country, has moved its 75,000-piece costume collection to the landmarked Kaufman Astoria Studios (KAS) and opens for business in its new home on Monday, November 14 at 9am.

The Astoria Performing Arts Center (APAC) announces their Tenth Anniversary Season Gala honoring Hal Rosenbluth (Kaufman Astoria Studios) and Council Member Peter Vallone Jr. The Gala will feature a special performance entitled BEAUTIFUL MUSIC: 10 YEARS OF APAC, music directed by APAC Alum Jeffrey Campos and directed by APAC Artistic Director Tom Wojtunik.
