AC Rutherford is a multidisciplinary artist currently based both in New York City and Michigan, who works under several names, including but not limited to Aaryn, AC the Scamp, Aaron C, Kit, A. Ro, ACR, and River.
With a background in theatre, AC has acted off-Broadway, in touring musical productions, and in regional houses across the United States. River holds a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Music Theatre Performance, with an additional focus in theatrical directing, from Western Michigan University. They have also studied abroad in England at the Arts University Bournemouth, where they completed an intensive Lecoq acting technique course, and has taken workshops with the Royal Shakespeare Company and various other theatrical institutions.
Onstage and onscreen, the Scamp is equally comfortable playing non-binary and third gender people, genderqueer and gender non-conforming people, women, men, animals, mythological and fairytale creatures, as well as other characters across a wide array of identities. They do so with humor and heart.
As a director, AC has mounted productions such as A Midsummer Night's Dream and The 39 Steps, directed workshops of new works, and directed new media pieces for distribution online. AC is the founding Artistic Director of Mid-Michigan's Pop-Up Shakespeare Project and is a co-creator and co-founder of MilkZone Productions, for which the Scamp has written, acted, produced, and directed.
As a visual artist, AC has been commissioned by the Royal Players Guild, Scents Memory Candles, CARE Therapy LLC, and several other businesses and publications. Kit is proud to have their art featured as tattoos on several friends' and strangers' bodies.
