RECYCLED ILLUSIONS comes to Teatro de la Estacion, running Dec. 1 and Dec. 2.
That was not the plan: the unforeseen pregnancy of the fighter pilot of the Armed Forces puts an abrupt end to his career in the air. It will not take off blue anymore. Without more his superiors destine it to the desert of Nevada, far from the battlefield. Your new job is inside an air-conditioned container somewhere near Las Vegas, on land. There he is with "Las Terricolas", piloting drone drones that fly over the Afghan territory 8,000 kilometers away. In the paralyzing 12-hour days, stare at the screen in front of their noses, look at the eternal gray of the screen, watch terrorists and kill at the touch of a button. It is at war. 12 hours a day 7 days a week. Every morning, after leaving her daughter in the nursery, she goes to war, fight until the end of the shift and then return home with her husband and daughter to have dinner quietly and play with pink ponies as if nothing had happened. But little by little the different realities begin to overlap. Every day it is more difficult to distinguish between work and everyday life, between the desert of Nevada and that of Afghanistan.
The work aims to investigate the particular transformation of the protagonist. Understand their motherhood, their sexuality and their role as warrior in a military world dominated mostly by men. It is a complex female character, with a problem that we are not used to seeing on stage, in a project that incorporates many professional women of the scene. The show also addresses the role of surveillance in today's panoptic society and reflects on the ethics of military strategies.
