Vienna Boys Choir with Elena Kats-Chernin (Composer)
Join twenty-five of the world's most beautiful voices and one of Australia's most acclaimed composers in a very special national tour.
For nearly 500 years The Vienna Boys Choir, or Wiener Sängerknaben, has been an enduring symbol of Europe, working with some of history's most notable composers such as Fux, Salieri, Joseph Haydn and Anton Bruckner and conductors such as Claudio Abbado, Leonard Bernstein, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Herbert von Karajan, Carlos Kleiber, Lorin Maazel, Riccardo Muti and Sir George Solti.
The choir is one of the world’s most active musical ensembles and performs over 300 concerts a year. Together with members of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and the Vienna State Opera Chorus, the Vienna Boys Choir maintains the tradition of the imperial musicians. They provide the music for the Sunday Mass in Vienna's Imperial Chapel, as they have done since 1498. Choristers also take part in opera performances at the Vienna State Opera, the Vienna Volksoper and the Salzburg Festival. Also singing popular music, they have contributed to a number of soundtracks for major motion pictures in the United States, Japan and Europe.
In 2012 the choir return to Australia to premiere a captivating new work by acclaimed composer Elena Kats-Chernin.
The program also includes an eclectic selection of the choir's own choral repertoire.
