Idyllwild Arts Academy has announced its Spring 2020 off-site student performance, catering to Idyllwild Arts family of supporters and their friends in the Desert Cities. The Idyllwild Arts Academy Student Showcase on March 4 promises a spectacular hour-long, fashion-inspired event, which will take place at Rancho Mirage Library (71-100 Highway 111, Rancho Mirage, CA 92270).
Commencing at 7pm, the evening is free and open-to-the-public, featuring the year's best work from students of Idyllwild Arts Academy, the pioneering arts high school that has been changing lives through the transformative power of art for more than 70 years. Located on a 205-acre campus in the SAN JACINTO Mountains, the school was recently voted #1 High School for Arts in America and prides itself on providing a unique experience for young artists hailing from more than 30 countries. On March 4, the works of over 40 students will be represented across all seven of the School's disciplines in a showcase produced and directed by Idyllwild Arts Director of Artistic Outreach Jonathan Sharp in collaboration with Fashion Design Chair, Abbie Bosworth.
A musical theater student will open the show with a song from Elton John's award-winning musical, Aida, followed by a visual presentation from Susan Stein, Creative Producer of Fashion Week El Paseo and long-time fashion editor of Palm Springs Life Magazine. Susan will speak to trends and innovation in fashion. The evening will feature a fashion show, presenting original styles by fashion designers at Idyllwild Arts Academy as well as a fashion-inspired performance of music, dance, film, spoken word, musical theater and visual arts. Continuing this year's fashion theme, Idyllwild Arts will also be supporting Fashion Week El Paseo, which kicks off on March 20.
"Our annual Idyllwild Arts Academy & Summer Program showcase is an important opportunity for the students to present in a professional venue and for the larger community of Idyllwild Arts supporters to witness the breathtaking talent of these students." said Pamela Jordan, President and Head of School of Idyllwild Arts Academy & Summer Program. "We are honored to have Susan Stein's support and excited to have a fashion-themed showcase this year, highlighting the creativity, innovation and cultural associations of fashion, in the lead up to Fashion Week El Paseo."
The evening will also consist of a viewing of the School's recent American Airlines in-flight video, a range of musical performances including a fashion meets dance-tiara collaboration and a ballet performance as well as creative writing and a student film, showcasing InterArts and fashion, ending with the song, "You're Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile" from the beloved Broadway musical, Annie.
On the heels of the March event, Idyllwild Arts will also be presenting a Visual Arts Reception on April 17, showcasing the students works at the Melissa Morgan Fine Art Gallery on El Paseo.
The forested 205-acre Idyllwild Arts campus sits two hours inland from Los Angeles and an hour and one refreshing mile above Palm Springs. The campus hosts Idyllwild Arts Academy, where talented teenagers from around the world specialize in their chosen arts disciplines while studying challenging college-prep academics, and the Idyllwild Arts Summer Program, offering immersive workshops in every arts discipline to people of all ages and skill levels.
