Tickets are now on sale for Desert Ensemble Theatre Company's world premiere production of Lovesport. Written and directed by Tony Padilla, Lovesport presents a funny look at serious issues people face when they fall in love; a story about the cost and rewards of love and commitment.
In Padilla's witty new script, middle-aged couple Josh and Marty invites home young newlyweds Gary and Ben for after-party drinks. During a night of partying tongues loosen, inconvenient truths are told, and relationships are changed.
The prolific Padilla was the Desert Theatre League's 2014 recipient of the Bill Groves Award for Outstanding Original Writing, and the 2016 recipient of the Joan Woodbury Mitchell Award for motivation in Desert theatre.
The cast, from DETC's core company, includes four-time Desert Theatre League Award recipient Jerome Elliott (Showstoppers!, A Number), four-time DTL nominee Alan Berry (Family Meeting, Sylvia), Cameron Shingler (Bad Jews), and Desert Theatre League winner J Gazpar Ascencio (DETC debut).
Now in its sixth season, Desert Ensemble Theatre Company grows and expands the art of theatre through original and engaging stage productions. DETC nurtures the growth of artists of all ages, on and off the stage, and create an environment that rewards and cherishes them.
The play runs two weekends, March 17-19 and March 24-26, at the Pearl McManus Theater in the Palm Springs Woman's Club, 314 S. Cahuilla Road. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased in advance through the company's website, www.detctheatre.org, or by calling (760) 565-2476.
