Arnold Scaasi, Canadian fashion designer who created ensembles for the rich and famous, died today, August 4, 2015. He was 85. Scaasi crafted one of his most recognized, and perhaps infamous, outfits for stage and screen star Barbra Streisand. She wore it to the 1969 Academy Awards, where she won the Oscar for her performance in the film FUNNY GIRL.

Commenting tonight on Scaasi, Streisand said: "I was very saddened to hear of Arnold Scaasi's passing. Arnold was a wonderful designer who knew how to combine fantasy and craftsmanship. He made many fabulous outfits for me over the years and unfortunately, only one of them stole the headlines."
Notably, Scaasi designed some of Streisand's costumes for the film adaptation of the musical ON A CLEAR DAY YOU CAN SEE FOREVER.
Among the other celebrities who wore Scaasi ensembles were Joan Crawford, Joan Rivers, Elizabeth Taylor, Mary Tyler Moore, as well as first ladies Hillary Clinton, Laura Bush and Mamie Eisenhower.
