Orlando theatre community joins reading of Lauren Gunderson’s new play on April 20, 2018 as part of a national campaign of theater activism against gun violence in a special one-time only performance at the Orlando Repertory Theatre
ORLANDO, FL.-- NATURAL SHOCKS, a new, unpublished play by award-winning playwright Lauren Gunderson, will be presented at theatres nationwide on April 20th, 2018 to commemorate the 19th anniversary of the Columbine High School shootings, Parkland-inspired national high-school walkout to continue to bring awareness of gun violence. Proceeds from the performance will benefit Everytown For Gun Safety/Moms Demand Action (https://everytown.org/).
NATURAL SHOCKS is a 65-minute play that bursts to life when we meet a woman waiting out an imminent tornado in her basement. She overflows with quirks, stories, and a final secret that puts the reality of guns in America in your very lap. The play is part confessional, part stand up, and part reckoning.
Although the play is written for one woman to perform, this is the only presentation in the county being performed by 13 actors. Director David Lee has collaborated with Lauren Gunderson on other projects and has assembled an amazing and talented Central Florida cast and other theatre professionals to bring the Orlando community into this national event:
Peg O'Keef Beth Marshall Ginger Lee McDermott* Trenell Mooring* Marty Stonerock
Meghan Moroney* Leesa Castaneda Sarah E Mathews Christine Robison-Laurence Kristal Jones*
Anitra Pritchard-Bryant Alina Alcantara Tymisha Harris Alia Laurence Tara Kromer
*Gratitude to Actor’s Equity Association for their cooperation in permitting the Artists to appear on this program
