Prepare to tumble down the rabbit hole like never before!
Haines City Theatre Youth Program proudly presents "Alice@Wonderland," a musical adaptation that blends the folly of the 21st century with the timeless madness of Lewis Carroll's beloved tale. Opening July 12, 2024, this vibrant production promises a whimsical journey that’s both nostalgically faithful and thrillingly modern.
In "Alice@Wonderland," our heroine is not just any Alice; she’s a tech-savvy, tweeting, texting, and Googling girl of today's digital age played by newcomer to the HCT’s stage, Gia Thomas. However, when Alice stumbles upon the Wonderland of old, she finds herself face-to-face with the whimsical and eccentric characters we all cherish— from the Mad Hatter (played by Michelle Dissler) to the White Rabbit (Caroline Higgins), and the formidable Queen of Hearts (Alena LaCombe). This collision of modernity and classic charm creates a unique and captivating experience for audiences of all ages. Under the direction of Dare Higgins, parents and children alike will find much to love in this sharp, entertaining adaptation. While the younger generation will relate to Alice’s digital escapades and the many references to social networking, adults will appreciate the clever humor and artistic style that pay homage to the original tale. Other characters include the Chesire cat, played by Georgia and Tessa O’Leary, the Caterpillar (Matthew Beck), the March Hare (Makayla Sanchez), the always sleepy Dormouse (Bella Fox), and the Tweedles Dee (Calliope Zimmerman) and Dum (Zoe Zimmerman). The cast is rounded out with Bradley Westfall, Bradley Jackson, Andrew and Tucker Martinez, Nikolas Marier Cruz, Paula Lagos, Perla Sanchez, Rory Hall, Anna Westfall, Willow Penick, Josie Martin, Miles Dissler, Tommy Morgan, Alejandra Rodriguez, and Juliette Ebes
Featuring a contemporary score by composer Bill Francoeur and lyricist Scott DeTurk, the musical's songs are as catchy as they are innovative. Their work brings a fresh, modern sound that harmonizes perfectly with Carroll’s enchanting world, creating an auditory feast that audiences will hum long after the curtain falls. Haines City Theatre’s own Steve Kessler is the music director, and choreographer Jayden Norman adds movement to the stage that brings the characters to life.
