The Valencia Character Company is proud to announce Stephen A. DeWoody of Winter Park, Florida as the winner of its 19th annual Original Play Competition among Florida playwrights.

DeWoody's winning script, DOORS, will debut as a fully-staged production from March 30-April 3, 2010 at the Black Box Theater on Valencia Community College's East Campus.

The play centers around an eclectic group of characters who find themselves thrown together in a limbo-like land of doors. Together, they work and play at untangling the mystery of their surroundings.

Central Florida audiences should be familiar with DeWoody - he has been acting in the area for several decades, as well as teaching theater, raising a family and writing. He recently finished his first novel and is actively pitching it to agents.

DOORS was selected from among nearly 40 submissions of full-length, never-before-produced original manuscripts from writers all over the state. The play will go through a developmental process at Valencia and will be produced and directed by Valencia's artistic director, Julia Allardice Gagne.

Valencia's East Campus is located at 701 N. Econlockhatchee Trail in Orlando.
