In January, The Studio Theatre™ Tierra del Sol (806 San Marino Drive, The Villages, FL) will open the third production of its second season with Stephen Sondheim's seven time Tony Award winning musical, Company.
Company is a mature, intelligent, and wildly funny look at relationships, vulnerability, and "being alive." On his 35th birthday, Robert-the lone bachelor-is uncertain whether he should simply be happy with his lot of married friends or if he should wish for his own romantic partner. Over a series of dinner parties, first dates, and thoughtful conversations, Robert attempts to understand the pros and cons of marriage from his diverse and frequently hilarious friends, and begins to make sense of his own persistent bachelorhood.
Portraying the principle character, Bobby, is Chris Crawford. Originally from Oklahoma City, Crawford currently resides in Orlando and is finishing a sold-out run of The Hound of the Baskervilles at Orlando Shakespeare Theatre. While Crawford and fellow cast-mate Meghan Moroney (Joanne) are both contracted at Universal Studios, this will be their first musical production working side-by-side. Among Crawford's accolades, he has won the Carbonell Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical for Murder Ballad at Actor's Playhouse, BWW Award for Monty Python's Spamalot at Orlando Shakespeare Theatre, BWW Award for Best Lead Actor in a Play (Professional) for Buyer and Cellar at Actor's Playhouse, as well as taking several other awards and nominations under his acting belt. Peter Nason of BroadwayWorld reviewed Assassins at freeFall theatre, "Director Chris Crawford's lively staging is immaculate; the acting top-notched; and the whole thing handsomely mounted." Crawford holds an MFA in Acting from the University of Arkansas and is a proud member of Actor's Equity Association. This will be his first time performing on The Studio's stage.
Playing the role of Joanne is Florida Actress Meghan Moroney. Moroney is no stranger to Stephen Sondheim's work. She's played Carlotta in Follies, two productions of Charlotte in A Little Night Music, and The Baker's Wife in Into the Woods. Moroney has been performing since she was 17 years old and has appeared in multiple regional theatres in Florida as well as up and down the east coast. Of her role as Mama Morton in Chicago (Riverside Theatre), reviewer Pam Harbaugh hailed, "Meghan Colleen Moroney is Matron Mama Morton. She's a pro through and through and fills the theater with her big, brash performance, especially in her number, When You're Good to Mama." She is a proud member of Actor's Equity Association and just finished a run at Edinburgh Fringe. Moroney has been nominated for best supporting actress for the Theatre Tampa Bay awards for both Bernarda Alba and Fiddler on the Roof at freeFall Theatre.
