The Lyric Theatre in Stuart, Florida has announced three events of their January, 2011 lineup.
An Evening With Burt Reynolds will be held Mon, Tue, Wed. January 10, 11 & 12 at 7pm. Sure, Burt Reynolds is a world-renowned actor, with such acclaimed work to his credit as "Deliverance," "The Longest Yard," "Boogie Nights" and "Evening Shade." But here on the Treasure Coast, we also know him as our neighbor and friend. His appearance at the Lyric is a rare opportunity to hear Reynolds' personal reminiscences of his celebrated multi-decade career, and in particular, those individuals who have made it special.
In total, Reynolds has made well over 100 films (spanning work as an actor, director, producer and narration/voice talent), and hundreds of television appearances. His awards are nearly as numerous, including an Oscar nomination, an Emmy Award (Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for "Evening Shade"), nine Peoples Choice Awards, the New York Film Critics Award, the John Housman Award and a Golden Globe Award. He received the #1 Box Office Star Award for five consecutive years (a record unmatched in Hollywood), and has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
It all adds up to an incredible career that is the inspiration behind his talk at the Lyric. You can expect the evening to include film clips and photos, with plenty of behind-the scenes stories.
The Mills Brothers will perform Thursday January 13 at 6pm & 8:30pm. What began over 75 years ago as an astonishingly original vocal group has grown into one of the most long-lasting and beloved acts in American popular music. The magic of The Mills Brothers continues today under the leadership of John Mills -- the son, grandson and nephew of the original group's members.
The new generation of The Mills Brothers also features the vocal prowess and compelling stage presence of Elmer Hopper, who spent nearly two decades as a member of The Platters.
Together, the duo captures the inimitable sound of the original group as they recreate hit songs like "Cab Driver," "Glow Worm," "Lazy River," "Yellow Bird," "Basin Street Blues," "Opus One," "Paper Doll," "You Always Hurt the One You Love," "I've Got My Love to Keep Me Warm" and more.
Justin David will appear Fri. January 14 at 8pm. When he was a kid growing up, Justin David viewed fiddle competitions like most other kids his age looked at mowing lawns: as a way to earn some spending money. Today, the talented singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist (playing guitar, mandolin, fiddle and more) is viewed as one of Nashville's fastest-rising stars.
As a teen, David received a National Endowment for the Arts Master Artists Apprenticeship. In 2005, while performing in Branson, Missouri, he auditioned for television's "Nashville Star," and was one of the show's top five finalists.
Once Roy Clark heard David play, he hired him to become part of his band, an opportunity that David counts as one of the luckiest of his career. David has played witH Clark for the past seven years, witH Clark graciously turning over the stage to him for a solo set each night.
Now with two CD releases of his own, David is building his solo career and touring with his own band. Do yourself a favor and catch this performance by one of Nashville's "ones to watch" on the contemporary country music horizon.
