Surfside Players, Cocoa Beach, is excited to announce AUDITIONS for its modern psychological thriller, THE PILLOWMAN, by Martin McDonagh, directed by Janet Bentley-Hallberg. Auditions are February 27 and 28, Sunday and Monday, from 7:00 - 10:00pm (at the latest), for performances April 29 - May 8.

No experience or resume required; wear comfortable clothing and shoes. Audition pieces will be available for study on www.surfsideplayers.com by February 21. This is the final production in Surfside's Second Stage series of experimental theatre, and is FOR MATURE AUDIENCES ONLY.

We are looking for 4 men in lead roles and at least 1 man, 1 woman, 1 girl for smaller roles. Age breakdown is as follows:
Katurian, Mikal, Ariel - male, 20s - 30s
Tupolski - male, 30s - 60s
Mother, Father - late 20s - 40s
Girl - approx. 7 - 13 (or teenager able to play this age).

THE PILLOWMAN is the 2004 Olivier Award Winner and a 2005 Tony Award Nominee for Best New Play. With echoes of Stoppard, Kafka, and The Brothers Grimm, THE PILLOWMAN centers on Katurian, a writer of grisly short stories often showing violence against children, who has been arrested by two detectives, Ariel and Tupolski, because some of his stories resemble recent child murders. When he hears that his brother Mikal has confessed to the murders and implicated Katurian, he resigns himself to his execution but attempts to save his stories from destruction. The play includes both narrations and reenactments of several of Katurian's stories, most notably the autobiographical "The Writer and the Writer's Brother," which tells how Katurian developed his disturbed imagination by hearing the sounds of Mikal being tortured by their parents. To reiterate: FOR MATURE AUDIENCES ONLY. Auditioners under 15 require parental supervision.
