David Goldyn's Off-Broadway play "Daddy Issues" will open August 4 at the Parliament House Footlight Theatre, Central Florida's only LGBT theatre. The farcical comedy opened Off-Broadway at the Theatre at St. Clements in September 2016, and was hailed by critics as "Hilarious," "Touching," and the Huffington Post said it was a "Frothy, whipped gelatin dessert of a show!"
The show centers around Donald Moscowitz (Wes Miles), a gay actor living in New York City in 1982. His overbearing Jewish parents (Wendy Starkand and Joe Zimmer) want grandkids. When Donald learns that Grandma Moscowitz (Jac LeDoux) will double his inheritance if he produces a grandchild, he dreams up an elaborate story and enlists the help of a 10-year old neighbor named
Johnny Walker (Nicholas Silvestro) to play his son - unbeknownst to the boy's mother,
Mary Ellen (Melanie Leon) - along with best friends Henrietta (Darby Ballard) and Levi (Tim Garnham), a drag star in the village ... But that's only the beginning of his problems!
Playwright
David Goldyn directs the production. "Orlando was my home for seven years, where I ran the Acting Studio Company. I'm so excited to bring my play home, to Orlando! This is a play about pleasing your parents and what lengths you will go to do that. Since Donald Moscowitz hires a ten year old kid to play his son to please his parents and grandma, this play will appeal to audiences of all walks: gay, straight, seniors, Jews... anyone with parents! The whole Moscowitz mishbucha is crazy and audiences kvell!"
The play opens on August 4 and plays Fridays and Saturdays through August 30, with a special industry night performance on Monday, August 21. Tickets are $20, and can be purchased at
phouse.ticketleap.com. As always, a ticket to a play in the Footlight Theatre includes club admission all night long.
