Central Florida Community Arts presents their 5th annual Summer Broadway Concert Series production, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor® Dreamcoat, September 8 & 9, 2016. With music and lyrics by the legendary team Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, this concert-style production of the ground-breaking musical is directed by Rob A. Lott, with music direction by Jacob Haines, assistant direction and visual design by Ashley Willsey, choreography by Katherine Rivera, and is produced by Joshua Vickery through CFCArts. Meet the stars below!
"We believe this story is so important," says director Rob Lott. "If we tell it right, everyone in our audience will be able to see themselves in this story... And we absolutely plan to tell it right! Presenting the show 'in concert' allows us to bend some rules theatrically and exercise a greater level of creativity in our storytelling."
This production takes place in an abstract, present-day setting - and alternate reality. Robes and beards of biblical times have been replaced with plaid shirts and hipster glasses. "Very early in the creative process we decided there would be no beards, robes, or sandals", says Lott. "We believe this show, this story, and the lessons to be learned from it are absolutely applicable and relevant to us today, and setting it in this modern world makes it that much easier for our audience to imagine themselves in the characters' shoes."
The young dreamer, Joseph, is beloved by his father, but sold into slavery by his jealous brothers. Though he initially finds favor with his master, Joseph soon finds himself wrongfully imprisoned.
