The Winter Park Playhouse plucks Daddy Long Legs straight from its Off-Broadway run in New York City to produce the southeast region's premiere of this well-loved musical. BroadwayWorld has a first look at the cast in action below!
This acclaimed Off-Broadway musical based on the novel by Jean Webster with music and lyrics by Paul Gordon and book by John Caird (Olivier and Tony Award winner for Les Miserables), is a heartwarming Cinderella story, in the spirit of Jane Austen and Downton Abbey, about a witty and winsome young orphan, her mysterious benefactor and the deep friendship that develops.
The cast includes Actors' Equity professionals Larry Alexander and Hannah Laird. Playhouse Artistic Director Roy Alan will direct and Playhouse Musical Director Christopher Leavy will music direct the production. Professional musical accompaniment includes Mr. Leavy on piano, Ned Wilkinson on multiple instruments, Sam Forrest on percussion and guest cellists Justice Milsom and Camden Starr in alternating performances.
Mr. Alexander has a lengthy resume that includes Broadway credits as Marius in Les Miserables and numerous Off-Broadway productions including Freddy in M. Fair Lady with Maximilian Schell. Additionally, Larry has a multitude of professional regional stage production credits including the First National Tour of Chess and and the World Premiere of Captains Courageous just to name a few. His television credits include The Guiding Light, As The World Turns, and The Rosie O'Donnell Show.
Ms. Laird's resume includes Off-Broadway work in Storyville and In Transit, the latter for which she won a 2011 Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Ensemble Performance. Other credits include a multitude of professional work in regional theatre. She can currently be seen locally as part of Walt Disney World's Finding Nemo: The Musical (original cast) produced by Disney Creative Entertainment. Hannah has been classically trained in voice, dance, and acting at Baldwin-Wallace College Conservatory of Music and while there exercised her opera skills as Barbarina in The Marriage Of Figaro and Cymbaline in A Hand of Bridge.
