Orlando Shakespeare Theater in Partnership with UCF continues its 2010-2011 Season with Jane Austen's witty romantic comedy, Pride and Prejudice, playing at the John and Rita Lowndes Shakespeare Center throug March 20, 2011.
Directed by Rollins Acting/Directing Professor Thomas Ouellette, Pride and Prejudice features Michele Vazquez as the intelligent Elizabeth Bennet, Avery Clark as the stoic Mr. Darcy, Broadway veteran Wynn Harmon (Porgy and Bess) as the amiable Mr. Bennet, Orlando favorite Anne Hering as the easily excitable Mrs. Bennet, Walter Kmiec as the charming Mr. Bingley and Courtney Moors as the lovely Jane Bennet.
Orlando Shakespeare Theater's lively production of Pride and Prejudice creates a world full of colorful characters and fast-paced wit. "Like all great works, Pride and Prejudice is rooted in its historical time and place, but it has a lot to say to contemporary audiences about love, courtship, risk, forgiveness, and families," said Director Thomas Ouellette. "It reminds us that we can never, ever fully know anyone else, and that falling in love is always a dizzying - terrifying - and wonderful journey into mystery and faith."
The creative team for this engaging adaptation includes Thomas Ouellette, director; W. Robert Sherry, choreographer; Bob Phillips, scenic designer; Eric T. Haugen, lighting designer; Jack A. Smith, costume coordinator; and Matthew Given, sound designer.
Pride and Prejudice is part of Orlando Shakespeare Theater's Darden Signature Series which runs in repertory with a magical, modern production of Shakespeare's classic A Midsummer Night's Dream, followed by Charlie Bethel's one-man rendition of Beowulf, the Theater for Young Audiences production of Alexander, Who's Not...Going to Move and closing in April 2011 with the Florida premiere of Charm.
