Orlando Shakespeare Theater in Partnership with UCF launches its 2014-2015 Children's Series with a quirky retelling of Rapunzel. After record-breaking productions of Cinderella (2012) and Sleeping Beauty (2013), playwright Brandon Roberts returns to provide audiences with another hilarious, family-friendly fairy tale this summer. Based on the story by The Brothers Grimm, Robert's World Premiere adaptation of Rapunzel will introduce the classic fairy tale to a new generation of kids and families. The production runs June 19 through July 27, 2014 at the John and Rita Lowndes Shakespeare Center in Orlando's Loch Haven Park. Weekend tickets, $12 for youth (ages 3-17) and $15 for adults, are available by calling (407) 447-1700, online at www.orlandoshakes.org, or in person at 812 East Rollins Street. Special rates available for schools and groups of 10+.
When an expectant couple crosses paths with an evil enchantress, she forces them to give over their beloved baby girl forever. As Rapunzel grows, so does her beauty-and her long golden hair-so the witch shuts her away in a lonely tower where she'll be safe. But the witch never anticipated that a handsome prince would come wandering through the woods. Will brave Rapunzel ever escape the clutches of her evil captor? Find out in this clever, playful adaptation of the classic fairy tale, with an Orlando Shakes twist!
"Roberts' new adaptation of Rapunzel is fun for the entire family," said Director of Education Anne Hering. "The excitement continues after the final bows with a character meet and greet following each performance!"
Rapunzel is best suited for children ages 4+ and their families, and runs approximately 55 minutes with no intermission. Single weekday tickets start at $9, with discounts available for groups of 10+. Single tickets, 3-Show Children's Series Subscriptions, and group discounts are available by calling (407) 447-1700, visiting http://www.orlandoshakes.org/tickets, or purchasing in person at the Box Office.
