Orlando Shakespeare Theater in Partnership with UCF continues its efforts to make theater affordable and accessible to every member of the community by offering a Pay-What-You-Will performance in conjunction with William Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew on Wednesday, September 25 at 7:30 p.m. Additional Pay-What-You-Will offerings will take place on the 25th day of select months, corresponding with the Theater's 25th Anniversary.
Orlando Shakes has put a Wild West spin on the Bard's outrageous comedy, The Taming of the Shrew, complete with poker chips, sharp-shootin' pistols, and a battle of the sexes like never before. Pay-What-You-Will tickets are only available in-person on the day of the performance at the Box Office (812 East Rollins Street) starting at 12 p.m. First come, first served until sold out. Tickets are limited to two per person. No refunds or exchanges.
The sweet and amiable Bianca can have her pick of suitors-but only once her sister, the much less charming Kate, is married off. Is fortune-seeking Petruchio the man to tame this fiery-tongued shrew? Galloping onto the Margeson Theater stage, The Taming of the Shrew is a bawdy romp with sexual innuendo physicalized on stage. The play may be best suited for teenagers and adults who are able to handle the suggestiveness inherent in Shakespeare's text. Concerned parents and theatergoers should contact the Box Office for more information.
The Taming of the Shrew runs through October 6, 2013 at the John and Rita Lowndes Shakespeare Center. Tickets for other performances (priced at $17-$40) are on sale now at (407) 447-1700, online at http://orlandoshakes.org, and in-person inside the Lowndes Shakespeare Center, 812 East Rollins Street, Orlando, FL 32803.
