Malcontent Theatre Company is producing The Laramie Project, funded entirely by donations, with all proceeds supporting the victims of the Orlando shootings. The show will be held on June 24th at 8:00 pm in the studio theatre at the Toronto Centre for the Arts. There will be a reception with the cast at 7:00 in the lobby.
The Laramie Project tells the story of Matthew Shepard, a young gay man who was murdered in Wyoming in 1998. Using interviews done by a company of actors as the text, this shows the impact of a hate crime on a country through the eyes of the people affected. With the events that have occurred in the last weeks, this play is incredibly relevant and important.
Directed by Jake Fulton and performed by a cast of local actors, this represents the Toronto theatre community coming together to show their support. Anyone who would like to contribute to a great cause and see one of the modern classics of theatre can purchase tickets online through ticketmaster.ca or through the Toronto Centre for the Arts box office at (416) 250-3708.
