Mad Cow Theatre has just announced the return of the Science Play Festival, running February 27 - March 1.
Last year, the inaugural Science Play Festival burst onto the scene with standing-room-only performances in the Zehngebot-Stonerock Theatre. This year, the festival moves to The Harriett and features three more staged readings that explore the world of science. GOD AND STEPHEN HAWKING, by Robin Hawdon, recounts the personal history and discoveries of one of the greatest scientific minds of all time. Patrick Link's HEADSTRONG investigates the epidemic of traumatic brain injuries in American Football. And finally, COPENHAGEN, by Michael Frayn, transports audiences to the high-stakes meeting between physicists Werner Heisenberg and Niels Bohr during WWII. Each reading will be followed by a talk back with the cast as well as local scientists.
The cast of GOD AND STEPHEN HAWKING features Philip Nolen as God and Cameron Francis as Stephen Hawking. The cast of HEADSTRONG features Jim Coleman as Duncan Troy, Michael Knight as Nick Merritt, and Trenell Mooring as Sylvia Green. The cast of COPENHAGEN features John Rice as Werner Heisenberg, Mark Edward Smith as Niels Bohr, and Peg O'Keefe as Margrethe Bohr.
GOD AND STEPHEN HAWKING is directed by Denise Gillman. HEADSTRONG is directed by Robin Olson. COPENHAGEN is directed by Arthur Rowan.
Mad Cow will once again be bringing in several local scientists and historians to serve as expert panelists during each talk back. Panelists include University of Central Florida professors such as Dr. Steven N. Ebert (Biomedical Sciences), Dr. Amy E. Foster (History), and Dr. Bahaa E. A. Saleh (Optics and Photonics). Panelists from Rollins College include Dr. Susan Walsh (Biology), Dr. Paul Stephenson (Biology), and Dr. Thom Moore (Physics).
Tickets may be purchased by calling Mad Cow Theatre's Box Office at 407.297.8788 ext. 1 or online.
