Mad Cow Theatre is excited to offer an innovative workshop, She Speaks, to empower girls and young women and to give them the confidence to stand up for themselves.

To be led by three theatre professionals and aimed at teenage girls in seventh through twelfth grades, the set of workshops will use theatre techniques to allow participants to make their voices heard. The afternoon will focus on physical, vocal and emotional awareness that will help them to command attention and respect in stressful situations.

"Our culture asks a lot from girls today," said executive director Mitzi Maxwell. "This workshop supports young women by giving them important tools to use for their safety and well-being when stressful situations arise."

She Speaks will take place from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 24 at Mad Cow Theatre, 54 W. Church St. in downtown Orlando.

Included in the workshop will be:

  • A workshop on physical awareness led by actor Cynthia Beckert, who will include structured physical exercises to find power in spaces large and small.
  • A workshop on vocal awareness, in which actor-director-teacher Lauren O'Quinn will help participants learn to express themselves confidently.
  • A workshop on emotional awareness, where actor-director-teacher Monica Tamborello will use theatrical techniques to help participants discover what they want and how to express it in productive ways.

Cost is $30 per participant, with group rates available to youth organizations. Participation is limited to a maximum of 75.

For more information about the workshop, contact Jessica Kashube.

Tickets are available at madcowtheatre.com or by calling Mad Cow Theatre's Patron Services at 407-297-8788 ext. 1.
