Tickets are now on sale for Hairspray, produced by Encore Cast Performing Arts, onstage at the Walt Disney Theater at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts July 22-23.
The '50s are out, and change is in the air! Hairspray, winner of eight Tony Awards including Best Musical, is a family-friendly show full of laughter, romance and memorable tunes audiences have fallen in love with. In 1962 Baltimore, lovable "plus-size" teen Tracy Turnblad has One Dream: to dance on the popular Corny Collins Show.
But when her dream comes true and she goes from social outcast to sudden star, she realizes a whole new set of responsibilities...not only does she have to use her newfound following to cast aside the reigning Teen Queen and win the affections of heartthrob Link Larkin, but also bring social integration to her television show...all without denting her 'do!
"Bringing 'Hairspray' to the Dr. Phillips Center stage is a dream come true for our entire Encore Cast Performing Arts family," said Clay Price, the organization's founder and artistic director. "We're heartened by the response our patrons have shared throughout our 15-year history, humbled by their applause and calling us 'Broadway-caliber,' and honored to support charities in our community with our creativity and expression."
Encore Cast Performing Arts' Hairspray brings this show to life in a way audiences have never seen before, with this concert version featuring a cast of more than 100 actors, dancers, choir members and a full orchestra...all ready to rock!
Curtain for the Saturday, July 22 performance is 8 p.m., with a 7 p.m. show Sunday, July 23. Tickets can be purchased online at www.drphillipscenter.org/hairspray, by phone at (844) 533-2014, or at the Center's box office at 445 S. Magnolia Ave. in downtown Orlando.
