Orlando Shakespeare Theater (Orlando Shakes) in Partnership with UCF presents the musical adaptation of Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day in the Margeson Theater from April 5 - May 5, 2018. Tickets ($9 - $20) are available now by phone (407) 447-1700 ext. 1, online www.orlandoshakes.org, or in person at the John and Rita Lowndes Shakespeare Center (812 East Rollins Street).
Alexander is having a bad day. A terrible day. A horrible day. To be quite honest, it's a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day. But then, everybody has bad days sometimes. In this delightful adaptation of her popular book, Judith Viorst sets Alexander's childhood challenges to music and brings to the stage one of America's feistiest characters. Alexander's struggles with life's daily dramas will not only entertain, but educate young audiences as they identify with Alexander and the obstacles he encounters, encouraging them to share their feelings and to realize that bad days happen to everyone.
"With the words and lyrics of Judith Viorst and a peppy score by Shelly Markham, this adaptation will place audiences in the the middle of Alexander's no good, very bad day," says Brandon Yagel, the show's director and Education Coordinator at Orlando Shakes. "Alexander, along with the audience, learn throughout the story that the best way to react to bad days is to forgive, forget, and focus on tomorrow. Because everyone has bad days...even in Australia."
Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day features Joshua Parrott as Alexander, Helena Whittaker as Mother/Mrs. Dickens, Isiah Columbus as Father/Dr. Fields/Shoe Salesman, Alexis Harter as Nick/Phillip/Becky, Austin Larkin as Anthony/Paul, and Junior Nyong'o as Albert/Kangaroo/Shoe Store Assistant.
The Orlando Shakes artistic team includes Director Brandon Yagel, Musical Director Megan Tsurumaki, Choreographer Spencer Morrow, Set Designer Alex Whittenberg, Lighting Designer Mary Heffernan, Costume Designer Mel Barger, Sound Designer Britt Sandusky, and Stage Manager Alyssa Will Zegers.
