Brevard Symphony Hosts SUNDAY WITH THE SYMPHONY August 19 ImageThe Brevard Symphony Orchestra invites music fans of all ages to "Sunday With The Symphony" on August 19th, at Barnes & Noble in West Melbourne. Presented by the BSO in partnership with Barnes & Noble Booksellers, this fun, family-friendly event will feature live music, children's activities, ticket giveaways and interactive discussions. The event also marks the start of the BSO's annual book fair which raises money for the Orchestra's H.O.P.E. fund. Event is free to attend.

Highlighting the event will be an interactive discussion with BSO Music Director and Principal Conductor Christopher Confessore. This year, Maestro will be joined by author Charlie Harmon. Mr. Harmon served as Leonard Bernstein's assistant for over four years and worked with Mr. Bernstein as his social director, gatekeeper, valet, music copyist, and itinerant orchestra librarian. Mr. Harmon's book about his time with Leonard Bernstein, "ON THE ROAD AND OFF THE RECORD," will be available for purchase during the book signing which concludes the event.

"I'm so excited for our audience members to meet Charlie Harmon. Charlie worked as Leonard Bernstein's Personal Assistant for four years and has an incredible amount of insight into the musical mind of one of our country's most important musicians. As we commemorate the 100th Anniversary of Bernstein's birth in the summer of 2018, Charlie's presentation will be another great way for our audience to get closer to the music, which enhances the listening experience in the concert hall," states Maestro Confessore.

From noon to 2:00pm, the BSO will have a variety of children's activities including a mini instrument petting zoo. The BSO's instrument petting zoo is always a highlight of any event, giving many young people their first "hands-on" experience with a musical instrument.

In partnership with Barnes & Noble, the BSO will also host a fundraising book fair which begins with each "Sunday with the Symphony" event and runs for five days after. By using BSO book fair voucher, Barnes & Noble will contribute a percentage of every sale to the BSO. Vouchers can be found on the BSO's website beginning on August 1st and can also be used to shop online at www.bn.com/bookfairs during the week of the book fair.
