Elizabeth Maupin, a longtime theatre writer and critic in central Florida let the readership of her theatre blog, Elizabeth Maupin on Theater, on Aug. 8 that she is done with criticism.

"Today's a day I never thought I'd see - the day I'm stowing away my critic's shingle and hanging up my critic's hat," Maupin, former critic for the Orlando Sentinel, wrote. "As of today, I'm giving up this blog and leaving theatre criticism to others."

She continued, "It's a move that has been long in coming. When I quit my job at the Orlando Sentinel, almost 18 months ago, I decided to keep reviewing - mainly because it didn't look like the Sentinel was going to replace me. But the paper did eventually get around to naming a new theatre critic (my friend Matt Palm), and eventually it began to seem to me that I could be spending my time doing something else."

Maupin told the blogs readers, "The main reason I'm stepping back is that I'm done. Recently I realized that I've been a practicing critic for 35 years and that I've said all that I want to say."

Maupin's exit corresponds with the end of the current Orlando theatre season.
