A House Divided is a world premiere production by Christina Kirk that explores a pivotal moment in 1863 when Abraham Lincoln's family is tested by the Civil War. The play depicts the visit of Mary Todd Lincoln's half-sister, Emilie Todd Helm, a Confederate loyalist who struggles to reconcile her allegiance with the complexities of family ties. As tensions rise, Lincoln's attempts to navigate the chasm between his personal and political life underscore the dramatic choices that threatened to tear both his family and the nation apart. The production is staged at the Lied Center for Performing Arts from September 17-22, 2024.
