Direct from Russia, the Moscow Festival Ballet will perform the production, SLEEPING BEAUTY, under the direction of Sergei Radchenko at 7:30 pm, April 30 at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's Lied Center for Performing Arts.
With music by Pyotr Llych Tchaikovski and choreography by Marius Petipa, SLEEPING BEAUTY follows the story of young princess Aurora and her finger-prick-induced enchanted slumber. Only a kiss from the Prince will break the spell, and the dancers of the Moscow Festival Ballet weave the tale together with inspiration from the Russian Ballet. SLEEPING BEAUTY was the first of Petipa's classics to be seen in Western Europe, and after being adapted in Great Britain in 1939, it has been considered afoundation for traditional ballet.
Founded in 1989 by legendary principal dancer of the Bolshoi Ballet, Sergei Radchenko, the Moscow Festival Ballet combines of the elements of Russia's most distinguished ballet companies with a fresh perspective to create the exciting dance group it is today. Comprised of Russia's leading dancers, the company has completed many extensive international tours, as well several across the United States, performing such classic works as GISELLE, DON QUIXOTE, and CARMEN.
