The Rose Theater's 2009/2010 season includes 11 theater and dance productions that offer something for everyone in the family! Among the outstanding productions featured this season are traditional favorites like The Velveteen Rabbit and The Imperial Nutcracker; brand new shows including If You Give a Cat a Cupcake and The Rainforest; exciting, thought-provoking titles forolder children; and Disney's High School Musical 2.

The 2009/2010 season is a milestone at The Rose-celebrating 60 years of children's theater and 10 years of dance. The theater's two resident companies, the Omaha Theater Company and the Omaha Theater Ballet, have made it possible for The Rose to offer high-quality, professional productions for decades.

The Rose's 2009/2010 season is sponsored by Children's Hospital & Medical Center and features the following productions:The Velveteen Rabbit, September 11-27, 2009Tickets are $16 each. Family members receive four free tickets.

The Velveteen Rabbit is just an ordinary, tattered stuffed bunny until a four-year-old boy discovers him and makes him "real." First staged by the Omaha Theater Company in 1986, this heartwarming story about rewarding friendships, true loss and the wonderfully surprising powers of love is told by a young man looking fondly back on his childhood. For ages 4-12. 

The House on Mango Street, October 9-18, 2009Tickets are $16 each. Family members receive four free tickets.This powerful play peers into the life of a 12-year-old Mexican American girl growing up in the Hispanic quarter of Chicago. In this production celebrating the 25th anniversary of Sandra Cisneros'snovel, Esperanza Cordero poetically reflects on her trials growing up on Mango Street. For ages 12-adult. (Important mature themes may not be suitable for children under age 12; parental guidance is strongly recommended.)

Confetti 2009, October 22-November 1, 2009Tickets are $16 each. Members receive a $6 per ticket discount.Each year, Omaha Theater Ballet professional dancers and staff create a dazzling and diverse newcollection of choreography to experiment with the sheer variety of dance-from traditional ballet tocontemporary and jazzy works.

Audiences will be mesmerized by this energetic production, present-ed "up close and personal" in the intimate Hitchcock Theater. For ages 6-adult. Annie - The Musical, November 27-December 20, 2009Tickets are $16 each. Members receive a $6 per ticket discount."It's a Hard Knock Life" for Annie-a spunky Depression-era orphan determined to find her parents who abandoned her on the doorstep of a New York City orphanage.

With her loveable mutt namedSandy at her side, Annie eventually finds a new home with billionaire Oliver Warbucks. Families will surely be singing along with this fun-filled adventure! For ages 4-adult.The Imperial Nutcracker at the Orpheum, December 3-6, 2009Tickets are $24-35 each. This is a $5 per ticket reduction off last year's prices. Members receive anadditional $5 per ticket discount and can save up to another $4.50 in service fees by purchasingtickets prior to the opening of public sales on September 21, 2009.

The beloved holiday story of Clara and her fantastical nutcracker comes alive with stunning choreog-raphy and an air of Imperial Russian elegance. The vibrancy of St. Petersburg in the 1890s inspired Tchaikovsky's magnificent score, the lavish sets and the shining performances that create a one-of-a-kind tribute to the wondrous power of a child's imagination. This timeless tale has been adapted for the stage to generate unprecedented holiday spirit. Santa, The Rose Theater Announces 2009/2010 SeasonPage 3 of 4Hermey the Elf and the Abominable Snowman will lead families through thrilling adventures at theNorth Pole as "the most famous reindeer of all" saves Christmas for all the children of the world. Family members receive four free tickets.Mercer Mayer's famous children's books-There's an Alligator Under My Bed, There's Something in My Attic and There's a Nightmare in My Closet-will come to the stage for the first time ever next spring! Families will see first-hand how the children sneak past the alligator under the bed, the Big Nightmare in the closet and the Silly Scary thing that lives in the attic. For ages 4-12. The Bridge to Terabithia, April 2-18, 2010Tickets are $16 each. Family members receive four free tickets.

The Rose Theater Production of Disney's High School Musical 2, June 4-20, 2010Tickets are $20-25 each.

Members receive a $5 per ticket discount.Things have been smooth-sailing for Troy and Gabriella since they starred in Romeo and Juliet, but as junior year comes to a close at East High, Sharpay vows to win Troy's heart by any means necessary. The Wildcats' drama-filled escapades at Lava Springs Country Club will be the perfectway for Omaha to kick off the summer!
