The Brubeck Brothers Jazz Quartet to Tribute Dave Brubeck in Omaha Next Month

Led by two sons of one of the most famous jazz pianists of all times, The Brubeck Brothers Jazz Quartet puts a fresh spin on traditional jazz. Omaha Performing Arts presents The Brubeck Brothers Jazz Quartet - Tribute to Dave Brubeck on Friday, February 26, 2016 at 8:00 p.m. in the Scott Recital Hall of the Holland Performing Arts Center, 1200 Douglas St. General admission tickets are $25, and are available through Ticket Omaha* at 402.345.0606, TicketOmaha.com or the Ticket Omaha office inside the Holland Performing Arts Center at 13th and Douglas streets. The show is part of the 2015/16 1200 Club Series, which is sponsored by Mutual of Omaha.

The Brubeck Brothers Quartet features two members of an accomplished musical family, Dan Brubeck (drums) and Chris Brubeck (bass & trombone). Guitarist Mike DeMicco and pianist Chuck Lamb complete the quartet. The Brubeck Brothers Quartet have been featured artists at major jazz festivals including Montreal, Detroit, Monterey, Syracuse and Playboy. The group's 2012 album, "Life Times," is the group's tribute to Dave Brubeck and features many of Dave's tunes, updated with the quartet's unique spin. "Like their father, The Brubeck Brothers have no fear of an odd tune signature or meter, and basically end up having their own way of perceiving time. The rhythmic force behind the Brubeck Brothers Quartet, Dan Brubeck's original drumming style, distinctive polyrhythmic solos, and use of odd time signatures have earned him standing ovations worldwide, and the respect of the international jazz community. JazzTimes Magazine wrote: "Dan will cause your mouth to drop open when you hear him. To call his drum solos exciting is to sell him short..." An award-winning composer, Chris Brubeck has been called "...a 21st Century Leonard Bernstein" by the Chicago Tribune. He is an orchestral arranger, lyricist and performer, equally at home playing jazz, rock, classical, funk and folk music on three instruments. DeMicco has toured extensively worldwide since 1980, including 10 years as a member of the acclaimed electric jazz quartet, The Dolphins, also featuring Dan Brubeck. Lamb co-founded the group Dry Jack, which was cited in the "Rolling Stone History of Music" as a premiere, cutting-edge jazz fusion group; he has garnered accolades for his creativity and expertise from major publications, with one critic saying he "sweeps together a stunningly comprehensive approach to the keyboard; he can play with elegance ... or positively roar with the most leonine gestures. The 1200 Club transforms the Holland Performing Arts Center's most intimate venue, the Suzanne and Walter Scott Recital Hall, into a relaxed nightclub setting where patrons can experience performances by nationally and internationally known artists in jazz, blues and comedy. While enjoying the evening's entertainment, audience members may enjoy hors d'oeuvres and cocktails served right to their candle-lit table.
