The Teens 'N' Theater (TNT) program has brought together fourteen actors from Omaha area high schools to bring playwright Michael Harrelson's interactive comedy, Real Movie Stars, to life at The Rose Theater. Real Movie Stars will be presented Oct. 6th and 7th at 5 pm in The Rose's intimate Hitchcock Theater, 2001 Farnam Street.
Teens 'N' Theater show tickets are $6 the day of show and not online. The Oct. 7th performance will be interpreted for the hearing impaired.
In Real Movie Stars, fading action star Cina Truise's attempt to resurrect her career leads her to debut her latest movie in her hometown, but the employees of Little Man Movie Theater are utterly unimpressed with what they see. In the protests that follow, Cina proves that big things come in small packages. "The energy of the whole thing is great," said Katie Maxwell of St. James School. "We've had a lot of fun in rehearsals for Real Movie Stars, and there's not a boring moment in the show." As the contest plays out, the live audience votes to determine the outcome of the silver screen battle, deciding who the real movie stars are in the end. The cast of Omaha teens, who hail from ten different high schools, will give audience members plenty of options when crowning the top entry. "Getting to know so many talented local people was very exciting," said Kayton Fee of Omaha's Westside High. "Watching the dedication we have to our characters, laughing at ourselves and having fun with the script-you just don't get those experiences outside Teens 'N' Theater." Real Movie Stars is an interactive video game-style show presented by professional Rose actors that teaches school children about ancient civilizations of South America. The show is directed by Harrelson and Michael Wilhelm. "I loved seeing all the new Teens 'N' Theater faces, and we hit it off right away," said Lewis and Clark's Brianna Jarboe. "With the excitement and work we put into the show, we're making friendships that will last a lifetime."
