Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's first public collaboration, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, will be presented as the summer musical at The Rose Theater in Omaha, May 31 - June 16. The rock opera tells the biblical tale of Joseph being sold into slavery by his brothers, before rising to lead Egypt through famine at the right hand of Pharaoh. With a cast of 40, the production promises to be spectacular with Joseph welcoming his long-lost family to the safety of Egypt at the end of the show.
"At its core, the show is about family, love, and forgiveness," said director Randi Hard. "Each production of Joseph is unique. Ours has a modern, very eclectic concept that will look stunning and highlight the ensemble's singing and dancing talents."
Although Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat preceded Rice and Lloyd Webber's Jesus Christ Superstar, they share many musical similarities with diverse styles such as calypso, country and rock. Audiences are sure to leave the theater humming one of the many recognizable tunes. The musical has been performed throughout the world by professional, community, church, and school groups due to the accessible music and family-friendly story. In the U.S., David Cassidy and Donny Osmond have both portrayed Joseph on Broadway and in national tours. The show is recommended for ages 5 and older, the performance is 1 hour and 20 minutes and includes an intermission.
