Mavis Staples and Nick Lowe to Appear Together at the Holland

An impromptu performance in 2011 led to friendship between two musical giants: Mavis Staples and Nick Lowe. The two are touring together in a double-bill, with a one-night-only performance in Omaha.

Staples and Lowe had been long time admirers of each other's work and each have carved a distinctive and unmistakable path in popular music. Sparked by their new friendship, Lowe (or "the silver fox" as dubbed by Staples) wrote the beautiful "Far Celestial Shore," a track that appears on her 2013 album "One True Vine." The 2015/2016 season is the first time these two performers have toured together in a double-bill.

Lowe has made his mark as a songwriter ("Cruel To Be Kind," "What's So Funny 'Bout Peace, Love And Understanding"), savvy veteran producer (Elvis Costello, Graham Parker, Pretenders) and has earned an undisputable reputation as the consummate musician's musician. He brings wit and understated excellence to every performance, leading Ben Ratliff of the New York Times to describe his live show as "elegant and nearly devastating."

For six decades Staples has been the solid rock of American music. Alongside the family group she is so identified with, the Staple Singers, she has managed to transform herself as she goes, yet never alter. Staples is a Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award winner, and a National Heritage Fellowship Award recipient.
