A LOOK BACK ON BURKE HIGH SCHOOL'S CRAZY FOR YOU at Omaha Burke High School

Congratulations to all the schools that participated in this year's Nebraska High School Theatre Awards, and to all the ones that were nominated! Here's a spotlight on Omaha Burke High School, which has been recognized for its 2018 musical production of "Crazy For You," earning a nomination for Outstanding Musical Theatrical Production. Performances ran from February 22-24th, and were directed by Emily Mokrycki and David Groth.

Set in the town of Deadrock, Nevada, shenanigans ensue in a case of mistaken identity, a whirlwind romance and classic hilarity, all the while trying to save a theater that is on the verge of foreclosure. Hannah Howatt portrayed Polly Baker with ease as a convincingly feisty and spirited young woman who comically loathes the leading man Bobby Child, played by Boston Reid. It was lighthearted, charming and iconic from the nostalgic music to the lively choreography.

The songs of Ira and George Gershwin were a catchy delight, with notable numbers such as "I've Got Rhythm" a foot stomping, toe-tapping number that had you dancing in your seat, well executed by the energetic ensemble. "Someone to Watch Over Me," delivered as a wistful and lilting ballad and "Shall We Dance," hearkened back to a Cole Porter inspired "walking on air," duet and dance type sequence.

Crazy For You marked Hannah Howatt and Mia Sherlock's senior and final performance in their high school musical career. Howatt was last seen as the lead role of Fiona in Shrek, The Musical. Sherlock earned a 2018 Theatre Arts Guild (TAG) Scholarship. Sherlock has been recognized for a Nebraska High School Theatre Award for Outstanding Actress in A Supporting Role as the "Zangler Follies" dance captain role of Tess.
