If you attended "The Dinosaur Musical," "Suessical, Jr." or ‘The Velveteen Rabbit" you saw the results of the theatre training of many of the talented young people in our community. If you saw "The Miser" you witnessed the skills of some of the teenagers who have been a part of The Off Broadway Troupers for a number of years. You may not have seen many of the other young actors who are members of The Troupers and take roles in the productions presented to the 5th through 8th grades in Grove Schools every year.
Consider giving your child a gift for Christmas that will not only be fun and will help mold their creative sides, but will give them beneficial skills for life. The Playmakers' After-school theatre training program begins a new semester on January 5, 2010, the same day that public schools are back in session. The curriculum will concentrate on acting through improvisation as well as other techniques that will improve their attitudes, confidence, and even some cognitive skills. They will also learn some of the technical aspects of theatre, such as lighting.
The three day program (M, T, Th) begins at 4:00 each day and ends at 5:30 pm at The Off Broadway Troupers building, 311 Grand, just east of City Hall. The semester fee of $80, due upon enrollment, is a real bargain and a great gift.
