Oklahoma City Students Travel To New York City To Film Choreography DVDs Image

Last January and February over 7,500 people traveled to Atlanta, GA and Sacramento, CA for the iTheatrics Junior Theater Festival Atlanta and iTheatrics Junior Theater Festival West, the world’s largest festivals celebrating young people and the transformative power of musical theater.  At the festival the students made it to the call-back for future shoots for “how-to” choreography videos for soon-to-be released musicals.  The scouts were on the lookout for outstanding students, out of 7,500 people at both festivals, 950 were invited to audition for iTheatrics resident choreographer Steven G. Kennedy, and 300 were invited to the final call-back. The final cast was determined this spring.

The instructional DVDs are produced by iTheatrics, a New York City based leading educational theater company that creates innovative experiences and products for the public and private sector. These videos will be used in tens of thousands of schools across the country and internationally. The tapings offer students an opportunity to experience the thrills and demands of being a performer, in that each presentation is learned, blocked, rehearsed and filmed in a few days.

Three students from the Oklahoma City based theatre company, KidsAlive!, were selected. Truitt Campbell has been cast in the filming of both CHICAGO: HIGH SCHOOL EDITION and NICE WORK IF YOU CAN GET IT: HIGH SCHOOL EDITION; Carter Haney, GETTING TO KNOW... CINDERELLA and OLIVER, JR.; and Crayton Haney, in GETTING TO KNOW... CINDERELLA and OLIVER, JR. This will be the first DVD filming experience for Carter and Truitt and Crayton's third.

KidsAlive! is a 501(c)3 nonprofit theater company whose mission is to provide a youth theatre experience for children of all-abilities designed to foster excellence in leadership, teamwork, and the ability to inspire other youth through the power of musical theatre. Founded in 2015 by Freddie G Fellow, Shawna Linck, the company now produces shows year round and offers classes in singing, dancing, and acting. Learn more at kidsaliveokc.org
