Local arts supporters will don their finest formal attire and find out as Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma kicks off the Halloween holiday with its 17th annual gala fundraising event, the 2012 Broadway Ball presented by Devon Energy, at The Skirvin Hilton Hotel on Friday, October 19th at 6:30 p.m. The event will benefit Lyric's year-round, main stage productions as well as its ThElma Gaylord Academy.
"The Broadway Ball continues to get bigger and better and this year's event will be no exception," said Paula Stover, Lyric's executive director. "The 2012 gala will celebrate Broadway's spookier side with fantastic entertainment from some of the more sinister shows we all know and love and, of course, the auction items are not to be missed."
Under the leadership of Artistic Director Michael Baron and Stover, Lyric strives to provide patrons with world class productions year after year both at the Civic Center Music Hall during the summer months and Lyric's Plaza Theatre during the fall, winter and spring. At Lyric's ThElma Gaylord Academy, budding theatre performers are trained by talented teachers in art forms such as dance, acting, vocal performance and more.
"It is through the generous support of our wonderful patrons and donors that we are able to deliver cutting edge productions and the most beloved musicals and plays to audiences," said Baron. "Not only is Broadway Ball a fantastic fundraising event, but it is a chance to celebrate with our most dedicated supporters."
Broadway Ball attendees and Lyric patrons have several ways to generously contribute prior to and during the event. Raffle tickets for a new Apple iPad and a $200 iTunes gift card, as well as his-and-hers Hybrid Bicycles, were sold at Lyric's 2012 summer performances and will also be available for purchase during the ball for $10. Winners will be drawn at the event but need not be present to win.
A large number of impressive live and silent auction items will be available for bidding during Broadway Ball. Live auction items include: a trip to the 2013 Masters Tournament, seven nights in a vacation home on the Mexican Riviera and a trip to New York City. Silent auction items include: $2,000 to spend at Samuel Gordon Jewelers, a shopping spree and private dinner at local high-end retailer CK & Co. and an HDTV from Onyx Theaters.
The 2012 Broadway Ball is chaired by Susan Chambers, co-chaired by Debbie Nauser and executive produced by The Chickasaw Nation. For sponsorship or ticket information visit LyricTheatreOKC.com/broadwayball or call Development Associate Catherine Warren at (405) 524-9310.
