Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma will present Charles Ludlam's THE MYSTERY OF IRMA VEP, October 10-27 at the Plaza Theatre.

The show will star Lyric favorites Monte Riegel Wheeler (Lady Enid, et al) and Jeffrey Meek (Lord Edgar, et al). Both actors portray multiple characters with dozens of lightning quick costume changes similar to Lyric's past hit-comedy GREATER TUNA.

"It is an incredible opportunity to star in a Charles Ludlam piece, especially one that is such a crowd pleaser," said Meek. "Portraying many vastly different characters in quick succession is an exciting new challenge for me and I'm ready to take it on."

Meek's credits include PAGEANT (Miss Deep South) and GREATER TUNA. The actor also often appears as the hysterical Norma Jean Goldstein, host of Gospel Brunch at Oklahoma City's popular restaurant The Boom.

Theatergoers may recognize Wheeler from his most recent role with Lyric, Mr. Harry MacAfee in BYE BYE BIRDIE. His other theatre credits include THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW (Dr. Frank-N-Furter), OLIVER! (Mr. Sowerberry), HAIRSPRAY and many more.

The play is a satirical take on all that is ridiculous in Gothic horror, Victorian melodrama and classic movies. At the opening of the show, we find Lord Edgar at Mandacrest Estate, grieving the mysterious passing of his first wife Irma Vep. Lord Edgar is joined by his new wife, Lady Enid. Spooky hilarity ensues as the cast aims to solve THE MYSTERY OF IRMA VEP.

"Theatrical revolutionary Charles Ludlam's influence inspires everything I do on stage," said Michael Baron, Lyric's artistic director and director of THE MYSTERY OF IRMA VEP. "Ludlam's writing is truly genius and IRMA VEP is one of the plays I've been hoping to bring to Oklahoma for some time now. By showing the comic talents of Monte and Jeffrey, I know audiences will have a ridiculously good time."

THE MYSTERY OF IRMA VEP is sponsored by Corner Energy.
