"Everyone Loves Opal"
Sapulpa Community Theatre presents "Everybody Loves Opal", Opal Kronkie, a middle aged recluse lives in a decaying mansion at The Edge of the municipal dump. The general chaos of her home is aggravated by the fact that Opal collects things - anything that can be toted home in her little red wagon. Opal is also an optimist, for no matter how mean her lot- or her "friends" - Opal responds with kindness and faith in the goodness of human nature.
Into her rather strange world come three purveyors of bogus perfume on the lam from the cops. Opal's menage is the perfect hideout, and she might be the remedy for their shattered finances. Attempted murder wouldn't seem to be funny, but here it is uproarious. The unsavory trio try to drug her and set the house on fire.- a plan for a "hit and run" accident backfires. Through it all, Opal radiates kindness, affection and strangely enough, gratitude. But the real clincher comes at the end when.......

THE DRINKING PARTY
Midwestern Theater Troupe presents a new translation and staging of Plato's Symposium. With stunning simplicity and clarity, Plato's classic masterpiece depicts the brilliant luminaries of the Greek world enjoying witty, provocative, and slightly drunken discourse, on the virtues of Love. Plato provides not only a contemporary portrait of such legends as Socrates, Aristophanes, and Alcibiades, but also demonstrates the famous Socratic Method in action, and offers a charming yet profound analysis of love, sex, and eroticism.
This production features an original translation by local scholar Amy Page Wilson, and is adapted for the stage by John Cruncleton. Wilson and Cruncleton's last collaborative foray into the world of Ancient Greece was 2006's "The Cyclops", an original translation and shadow-puppet adaptation of Euripides' satyr play.
Performances are April 9, 10, 16, 17, 23 & 24 at 8:00pm. Tickets cost $10. The Drinking Party will be performed at Nightengale Theatre, 1416 E. 4th Street Tulsa, OK 74120. For more information go to www.nightingaletheatre.com.
