There are things that are better off at a distance like the sunset, said Emerald, played by Dorothea Gloria while looking far off in the melting colors of the sunset.

Here she plays a caregiver for Dita, played by Fran Kravitz, who romanticizes ending her life; a topic the writer, Russell Legaspi feels strong about.

As a long time private nurse for a well renowned writer, Dorothea's character is faced with examining her own path in this thing called living. What if someone is really tired of living? Who is responsible then? What does it mean to stay here, surviving, alone?

In a world where everything is connected, information is abundant, and all the problems and difficulties people face are out in the open; there are a group of people hiding in the quiet buildings and apartments of our neighborhood, and sometimes all they need is a good conversation.

The play permeates into the condition that most retired elderly face but some people deem not serious enough to be talked about; loneliness. And while it tackles mortality in different levels, from the expiration of relationships to the longevity of sunsets and even from the lingering of memories, When the Swallows Fly Back is a poignant story directed with utmost care by Melanie Liebetrau. It is about the connection of things and the termination of them.

'I think of my own mother, my grandmother, people who are closest to me. I cant imagine a day without them,' Dorothea recalls as the play touches too close to home, she added.

See Dorothea Gloria and Fran Kravitz find out what will happen, When the Swallows Fly Back.

Opening this Feb 7, 7pm and Feb 8, 9pm at the Greek Cultural Center in Astoria.

Dorothea hopes that this play reaches to the people out there who are asking the same questions. And find that there are things worth fighting for in the memories we all share.
