Mike Geffners Inspired Word, one of New Yorks most popular indie performance series, presents Variety Experience Live, showcasing this citys rising star musicians, comedians, spoken word artists, and poets. Hosted by former NY1 anchor Budd Mishkin and featuring the rousing Melissa June Band, a little rock, a little folk, a little country but a lot of soul, with vivid, heart-tugging lyrics and tight harmonies that will seem like the Indigo Girls, The Lumineers, and Mumford and Sons rolled into one; poets Justin Gratta, whose raw, intense Leonard Cohen-esque rhymes explore relationships and mental health and land straight on the pulse, and the self-reflective Leah V, whose Beat Generation inspired wordplay examines cultural identity and feminism.Founded/Produced by former journalist Mike Geffner, InspiredWordNYC began in Jan. 2010.Show starts at 9:30pm. Doors open at 9.
