A play by Roberto Ramos Perea... Tuya siempre, Julita.

A play about the romantic relationship between Julia de Burgos and Luis Llorens Torres

With Belange Rodriguez as Julia de Burgos & Alfonso Rey as Luis Llorens Torres

Directed by: Amneris Morales e Ivan Goris

The grand premiere of the new edition of “Tuya Siempre, Julita” written by Roberto-Ramos Perea arrives in New York thanks to Barrio Independent Productions. It’s been discussed a lot about Julia de Burgos, her poems, and her tragic life. However, the history continues surprising us with new discoveries about Julia's lovers, her life and her struggle to become what she eventually was and continues to be, the largest Puerto Rican national poet in our history.“Tuya Siempre, Julita” was published in 1993, and following the publication and subsequent presentations of this work which narrates the hypothetical romantic relationship between Julia and the poet Luis Llorens Torres, there were many comments of astonishment from Julia’s scholars who thought that this relationship was just gossip. However, after thorough studies, it was found that not only was this relationship a reality but, it was also found in the work of both poets reflecting traits of a kind of mutual plagiarism.“On both sides, there are arrows of mysterious origin that, if looked closely, return our passion overshadowed by the sad and desolate attitude towards life, the dramatic difference in age, andpossible, and perhaps probable, envy among colleagues. Envie that, if it looks deeply, it could have been born of a deep admiration and mutual respect, evident in their intimate papers. This, in turn, must have been sabotaged by the carnal desire, boredom, and the guilt.” Quote by Roberto-Ramos Perea.Under the co-direction of Amneris Morales and Ivan Goris, Belange Rodriguez will interpret Julia de Burgos while Alfonso Rey will incarnate Luis Llorens Torres. The play will be presented on November 17, 18, 19, 24, 25, and 26 at the Teatro Miriam Colon of Julia de Burgos Cultural Center. The author of the piece himself, Roberto-Ramos Perea, will be in New York for the performances to share with the audience. The play is in Spanish wit subtilles in English.
