To close out its return 95th season, the St. Bart’s Players is thrilled to present the hilarious whodunit musical, The Mystery of Edwin Drood. There will be ten performances from October 19 – 30, at The Hudson Guild Theater, 440 West 26th St., NYC.
This unique musical, with book, music and lyrics by Rupert Holmes, premiered on Broadway in 1985 and went on to win six Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical and Best Score.
Based on Charles Dickens’ final and unfinished novel, this interactive musical theatre experience is set in 1892 England and centers around the character of young Edwin Drood, who has been mysteriously murdered by an unidentified culprit. The tale is presented as a show-within-a-show, as the Music Hall Royale—a delightfully loony Victorian theatre company—performs Dickens’ brooding mystery. Unfortunately, Dickens passed away before revealing the culprit, so unlike other shows, this one invites the audience to solve its mystery—the audience votes on which character murders Drood (and chooses a romantic pairing of characters, as well as the identity of a mystery detective).
